Total Joint Replacement and Joint-Saving Techniques for the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis: The Problems of Decision-Making

Background: Recently, there has been an increasingly insufficient use of conservative methods therapy and unreasonable increase in indications for total replacement large joints. According to the literature, more than 25% cases knee joint could have avoided if patients had provided with optimal non-surgical treatment. In addition, orthopedic traumatologists once focused on unheralded joint-saving surgeries like corrective osteotomy, arthrodesis, arthroscopic techniques, arthromedullary bypass grafting, distraction joint, tunneling, or osteoperforation due number revision unsatisfactory results replacement. Aim: This reviewed international literature consider alternative surgical treatment osteoarthritis. Materials Methods: The analysis scientific publications osteoarthritis was performed. Results: Joint-saving represent arthroplasty improve quality life patients. Such interventions do not require specialized expensive equipment. intervention is accompanied by a shorter recovery period, lower rate complications case affected joint.
